Relay for Life

Hope sign with luminaria in front

St. Paul’s fields a team — the St. Paul’s Pacers — for the King George Relay for Life. This annual event is held in May, at the King George High School track. Luminaria are placed around the track and lit at sunset.

Relay for Life is a community gathering event; it is not an athletic event or a competition. It is a national fundraising event that benefits the American Cancer Society and its cancer research efforts. The Relay is a celebration of life and an opportunity to honor and remember loved ones who have been touched by cancer.

tshirtsEveryone of all ages is welcomed and encouraged to participate in this fun and memorable event. There is entertainment, food prizes, and fun for all ages. You do not have to be there for the entire event; if you can join us for an hour or more, that will be great, but don’t be surprised if you decide you want to stay longer!  This is a really big event involving the whole King George community.

Cancer survivors and cancer patient caregivers are also honored, and they are invited to join others in a special walk around the track just after the Opening Ceremony. Please contact David Gallagher or Stephanie Henke, if you would like to:

  • join the St. Paul’s Pacers team,
  • participate in the cancer survivors or caregivers ceremony, or
  • make a donation to the American Cancer Society (Please make out your check to the American Cancer Society)

We have fundraisers for the American Cancer Society throughout the year, including our annual Cowpie Bingo! Announcements concerning our fundraisers appear in “The Journal,” St. Paul’s Epistle, and St. Paul’s website.  The King George Relay for Life organization provides a website coordinating  local fundraising activities.

If you would like to place a luminaria to honor someone who has been touched by cancer or in memory of someone who has died due to cancer, please download a luminaria form and give the completed form and fee to Stephanie Henke or David Gallagher. Please note that there will be a special memorial area for any survivors who participated in our Relay last year and who have since passed away.
