Summer Camps

It’s never too early to plan ahead, and think about summer camp! We are fortunate to have a number of different Episcopal camps in Virginia, only a few hours away from King George. The Diocese of Virginia sponsors a number of different camps at Shrine Mont in the beautiful mountains of Virginia, (804) 643-8451. The Diocese of Southern Virginia offers camp programs at its camp and conference grounds on the banks of the peaceful James River near Surry, at Camp Chanco; (757) 294-3126.

Happy campers

Camps are for children age 8 to 18, and they operate from late-June to mid-August. Schedules for all camps are available on their websites. Some camps and sessions fill up, so I recommend registering early.

NEW: St. Paul’s offers limited, partial grants to St. Paul’s families to help offset the cost of an Episcopal summer camp.

Here are descriptions of just a few of the camps offered; there are many more!

Music at St. George'sSt. George’s Camp is a traditional, co-ed residential camp that offers the opportunity to learn about the love of Christ by experiencing it in a Christian community. Every facet of camp life affirms the value of each member of the Body of Christ. Campfires, swimming, games, hiking, singing and organized worship all play an important role in daily life at St. George’s Camp.

Music and Drama Camp is focused on the preparation of a biblically based musical. The musical is the focal point for fellowship and the expression of love for God and creation. Campers design and build the sets and the backdrops during daily art classes. Campfires, swimming, games, singing and worship are all part of MAD Camp.
